A Foundation for Scholarly Achievement
The Latin program in Middle School begins for all fifth graders, who take two classes a week for the entire year. The curriculum is a foundational course in order to prepare not only the boys choosing Latin for the next three years, but also to ready those electing a modern language.
Latin in grades six through eight strives to foster an appreciation for the language, to challenge its participants academically, and to prepare them for the demands of advanced courses in the Upper School. The classes stress comprehension of grammar, acquisition of vocabulary and forms, and skill in translating.
