A Three-Year Exploration
The Middle School Latin program is a three-year sequence beginning with an exploratory language course in the 6th grade. This survey course, which investigates the extent and depth of influence of the Latin language on modern languages, includes history and mythology units, and uses the Cambridge series as its introductory text.
The 6th grade curriculum leads into the 7th and 8th grade courses, centered on the Oxford Latin series and including a comprehensive preparation for the high school Latin II curriculum.
Two additional Latin seminar courses are also offered, both taught prior to the beginning of the academic day. These tutorial-based classes are optional courses for students with solid language skills and are designed to prepare them for the Upper School Latin II curriculum.
