Pre School

Exploration. Discovery. Joy.

LIFE DISCOVERED

Using a caring, nurturing, and fun approach, we help our youngest boys develop an excitement about learning and a readiness for the academic subjects they will encounter in Lower School and beyond. Small class sizes and two full-time teachers per room ensure exceptional support. Early on, we encourage boys to develop a positive attitude about themselves, their classmates, and their school. Character development lies at the heart of everything we do, guided by the Brunswick Trust.

Pre School Curriculum

A love of learning starts here. Age-appropriate academic skills are thoughtfully integrated into every aspect of our Pre School day, designed to be equal parts rigorous and fun. Basic learning skills are fostered through activities incorporating early math, reading and writing, science, art, music, and athletics. Students are also introduced to technology and to the Spanish language.

Each of our boys is taught to develop collaborative problem solving skills and to understand what it means to be a kind and caring classmate.

  • During Trust Time, boys are taught lessons on social-emotional learning, executive functioning skills, health and wellness, service and sustainability, and leadership.
  • During Discovery Time, boys head outside to explore our beautiful campus and engage in hands-on STEAM activities in our state-of-the-art lab.
  • Our P.E. program fosters positive self-image and sportsmanship, enabling each student to grow into an accomplished athlete.

Visual Arts

The Pre School visual arts program builds foundational artistic skills and confidence in a range of creative media. Boys learn to draw and paint through sequential lessons shaped by their individual abilities, with a focus on creative risk-taking. Student artwork is displayed throughout the school year.

Performing Arts

The Pre School music program follows the Orff-Schulwerk approach, encouraging boys to experience music through singing, instruments, poetry, movement, listening, discussion, and creative expression. The goal is to make music accessible to every child while nurturing joy, curiosity, and self-expression. Students are invited to explore how music connects to their lives and cultures –– and to share their talents in a supportive environment that values both individuality and collaboration.

In addition to a rich and fulfilling program, Pre School boys may participate in a range of in-house extracurricular activities before and after school through BASE—Brunswick After School Experience. BASE offers a wide choice of rotating Encore enrichment activities like chess, karate, outdoor games, and more. These clubs give boys a chance to explore interests, build new skills, and enjoy our extensive facilities. BASE also includes an additional Extended Day option that provides safe childcare for children of working parents or families in need of care beyond the traditional school day.

  • Busy days filled with a developmentally appropriate balance of work and play
  • Two recesses per day on our newly renovated playground
  • Mission to “develop in each student a sense of responsibility to himself, to the school community, and to the greater society”
  • Various community service initiatives throughout the school year, each emphasizing the joy of giving
