In addition to a full and enriching academic day, Lower School boys may participate in a range of in-house extracurricular activities before and after school through BASE—Brunswick After School Experience. BASE offers a wide choice of rotating Encore enrichment activities like chess, karate, outdoor games, and more. These clubs give boys a chance to explore interests, build new skills, and enjoy our extensive facilities.

BASE also includes an additional Extended Day option that provides safe childcare for children of working parents or families in need of care beyond the traditional school day. Each opportunity supports leadership, connection, and character development as boys grow toward the Middle School years.

Featured Programs

Big Brother

Each first grade boy is assigned a fourth grade Big Brother, who serves as a mentor and friend, looking out for him during his first year in Lower School. Along with activities planned to help bond the oldest and youngest members of the Lower School community, Big and Little Brothers also enjoy weekly lunches and sit together at Friday assemblies.

Student Council

Lower School Student Council promotes leadership, organization, and school spirit. Third and fourth graders may be elected as officers. Fourth grade student council members take on an additional leadership role as Lower School Ambassadors, visiting classrooms to introduce community service initiatives.

Connections

Connections is a cross-divisional initiative that connects students across grades and reinforces our strong belief that students are responsible for each other and should look out for one another. Upper School boys are chosen to lead advisory activities and run Lower School assemblies, and are trained to teach younger boys cooperation and teamwork.

Community Service

Informed by a mission that encourages us to “develop in each student a sense of responsibility to himself, to the school community, and to the greater society,” Lower School boys actively participate in various service learning and volunteer opportunities. Students are encouraged to reflect upon their experiences and internalize the joy of giving.

Brunswick sent two teams to Lockheed Martin's CyberQuest, a global cybersecurity challenge hosted across 14 in-person and virtual sites in the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, and Singapore, on Saturday, March 28.

Upper School Math Team Wins State Title

Brunswick’s Upper School math team competed in the Connecticut State Math Match on Tuesday and placed first in the small schools division with 103 points.
