A Broader Understanding of the World

Brunswick’s Upper School science program follows a traditional sequence of lab-based courses in biology, chemistry, and physics.  These courses — taught in both regular and honors tracks — provide substantial foundations in both content and standards of inquiry. Students design and conduct experiments, think critically about the relationships between evidence and explanations, and communicate scientific arguments and findings via oral and written reports.

In a coordinated effort to provide rich, authentic experiences based on individual interests, the department offers numerous AP courses, as well as a variety of electives designed to actively engage students in specific disciplines or to engage them in research that emphasizes problem-solving and practical applications.

Students complete the Upper School science program with a broader understanding of the world in which they live, as well as an ability to engage scientific content and articulate salient questions regarding the unknown.
