Frequently Asked Questions

When should I start the application process?

We encourage families to submit an inquiry as early as possible. This ensures you’ll receive our viewbook, which highlights our academic programs, school spirit, and community, as well as key dates and steps in the admissions process.

We also invite you to attend one of our (optional) fall Open Houses, which offer a great introduction to Brunswick:

  • Pre School Open House – Saturday, October 18
  • Upper School Open House – Sunday, October 19
  • Lower and Middle School Open House – Sunday, November 2

Some divisions may also offer group tours for families interested in exploring Brunswick prior to applying.

Parent and Candidate Visits will begin in mid-September, and we recommend scheduling your visit(s) in the fall. Visits continue through January. Please note that applications must be submitted prior to your visit date(s). Our application goes live in August.

What is the most important part of my application?

There is no single deciding factor in our admissions decisions. We are looking for curious, engaged students who are eager to contribute to Brunswick’s vibrant community.

The process is holistic, with several key components (that vary by division):

  • Application
  • Parent/Candidate Visit
  • Teacher Recommendations
  • Standardized Testing and/or In-House Assessments
  • Transcripts and Grades

Each element is carefully reviewed and valued as part of our thoughtful admissions process.

What standardized test scores are required?

No standardized testing is required for Pre School applicants.

For Lower School:

  • Applicants to grades 3 and 4 must submit ISEE scores.

For Middle School:

  • Applicants to grades 5 and 6 must submit ISEE scores.
  • Applicants to grades 7 and 8 may submit either ISEE or SSAT scores.

For Upper School:

  • Applicants may submit ISEE, SSAT, or official PSAT scores. We accept any of these options and do not have a preference.

Testing should ideally be completed between September and January, but we will accept results from tests taken earlier in the calendar year.

Please visit our Testing Information Page for details on registration and test dates.

How does financial aid work at Brunswick?

Brunswick allocates over $9 million annually in financial aid, offered as outright grants to qualified students and their families. Our need-based program can assist not only with tuition, but also with related expenses.

For more details and fee waivers, visit our Financial Aid page.

Do you accept late or mid-year applications?

Most available spots are filled by applicants who complete the process by the January 15 deadline. Complete applications, including all supporting materials, received after our decision notification date may still be submitted. These will be reviewed at the discretion of each division, depending on space availability and other considerations.

We do not accept rolling admissions once the school year has begun.

What are Brunswick’s primary entry points?

We accept applications to all grade levels. While the below listed are the largest points of entry, openings in other grades may become available based on enrollment changes, so availability by grade can vary from year to year.

Brunswick’s primary entry points are:

  • Pre and Lower School: Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and Grade 1
  • Middle School: Grades 5 and 6
  • Upper School: Grade 9

We do traditionally enroll a small number of students in non-entry point grades. We encourage families interested in these grades to apply and speak with the appropriate divisional admission office.

Does Brunswick have a birthday cut-off policy?

Yes, there is a birthday cut-off for Pre, Lower, and Middle School applicants (Pre-K through Grade 8). Based on our experience, students thrive best when they are in a peer group that is closely aligned in age.

As such, we have a firm cut-off date of August 1:

  • Pre-Kindergarten applicants must be 4 years old by August 1 of the year of entry
  • Kindergarten applicants must be 5 years old by August 1
  • And so on through Grade 8

For Upper School applicants, birthday cut-offs vary. Please contact the divisional admission office to discuss your child’s eligibility for a particular grade.

What is your notification date?

Admission decisions will be released on February 20 through our online portal. Please note that decisions will not be sent by mail or email.

Does Brunswick offer transportation?

Yes. Please visit our Transportation Page for a comprehensive overview of the options available in your area. You’ll also find contact information for the appropriate point person should you have any specific or detailed questions.

An Important Message from the Chairman of the Board

It is with profound gratitude for a job exceptionally well done that I write to advise you that Tom Philip has informed the Board of Trustees of his plans to retire in June 2027, at the close of the 2026–2027 school year. When that milestone day arrives, after 26 years of his steady and extraordinary leadership, Tom will be the longest tenured Head of School other than Brunswick’s founder.
