Making Music, Making Joy

The Lower School music program follows the Orff-Schulwerk approach, encouraging boys to experience music through singing, instruments, poetry, movement, listening, discussion, and creative expression. The goal is to make music accessible to every child while nurturing joy, curiosity, and self-expression. Students are invited to explore how music connects to their lives and cultures, and to share their talents in a supportive environment that values both individuality and collaboration.

All boys perform in one concert per semester. For third and fourth graders, musical talents may also be furthered through participation in our extracurricular choral group, the Singing Bruins.

Various drama activities give boys a chance to develop public speaking and acting skills, from reading scripts aloud to participating in full-production plays and musicals. All boys also learn polite audience manners as part of their Lower School experience.

An Important Message from the Chairman of the Board

It is with profound gratitude for a job exceptionally well done that I write to advise you that Tom Philip has informed the Board of Trustees of his plans to retire in June 2027, at the close of the 2026–2027 school year. When that milestone day arrives, after 26 years of his steady and extraordinary leadership, Tom will be the longest tenured Head of School other than Brunswick’s founder.
