Foreign Language Immersion Program

Language Acquisition. Cultural Immersion.

LIFE IMMERSED

The Foreign Language Immersion Program (FLIP) works to further language acquisition by encouraging boys to take optional summer classes in an immersive experience abroad (or at recognized domestic immersion programs such as Middlebury-Monterey and Concordia). FLIP also seeks to increase Brunswick students’ appreciation of the cultures, traditions and perspectives that are different from their own.

Brunswick’s desire is for our students to become global citizens and to develop an awareness of the economic, social, and environmental concerns of our time. Our children’s world demands that they understand not only their own country, but other nations, cultures, languages, and religions around the globe. Upon successful completion of an accepted program, students earn the right to petition to advance in language study and/or move to the Honors/AP-level. The program will be a part of the students’ official Brunswick transcripts, where they will be listed as FLIP Scholars.

Our goal is to encourage every Upper Schooler to participate in this program prior to graduation, and to be able to pay for the travel expenses of every student who requires financial assistance.

Live with a Local Host Family

Staying with a host family provides our students with unmatched exposure to real-world language use and culture.

Learn in the Classroom, Speak in the World

Our boys attend daily classes taught by native speakers, reinforcing what they have learned through real-world conversations.

Language Over Travel

While cultural outings are part of the experience, the focus always remains on meaningful language practice and growth.

Culture and Conversation First

Rather than drilling grammar, we emphasize practical communication skills and cultural knowledge.
