Vermont Campus

Away. Disconnected. But Together.

LIFE EXPLORED

In developing young people of character, the nation’s leading neuroscientists, psychologists, and educators agree: immersive, real-world experiences are essential. At Brunswick, that work is grounded in our Vermont Campus.

With 650 acres of wilderness, woods, streams, and nature in its abundance, the campus provides essential “away space” in which students must switch off and disconnect to grasp and explore the benefits of both aloneness and direct, personal interaction—and deepen as never before their relationships to themselves, the world, and each other.

Located in the center of the Green Mountain State, Randolph, Vermont has much to offer. Local cultural opportunities, colleges, farms, outdoor activities—all are woven into the Vermont program for our students. Students in each major division—Lower, Middle, and Upper School—travel to the campus for foundational experiences in outdoor education, applied learning, and personal growth.

The Capstone Experience

Small groups of sophomores visit Vermont throughout the year, each accompanied by their advisor and two senior leaders. Traveling by Amtrak, students arrive in a place absent of iPhones, TikTok, and digital distraction.

What follows is a period of authentic connection—unplugged, outdoors, and face-to-face. This unmediated interaction fosters incredibly earnest conversations at times and just plain entertaining ones at others. Senior leaders help mentor their younger peers, reinforcing Brunswick’s culture of leadership and brotherhood.

A Day in the Life

No two days are the same, but each is grounded in real work, connection, and challenge. Boys might help at a local farm, split wood, cook meals, and take part in team exercises—learning and growing through shared effort.

The Power of Listening

Each evening, the boys gather for “Circle,” a quiet ritual. One boy opens with a theme or question, then one by one, each must speak. No responses, just listening.

Into the Wilderness

Physical challenge is part of the Vermont experience. Students hike mountains, camp overnight, and face the elements together.

Learning with Locals

Brunswick’s Vermont Campus connects with the local community through immersive partnerships. Students work alongside local farmers and get their hands dirty.

Winter as the Classroom

Whether skiing, snowshoeing, or simply learning to layer up and stay warm, the boys embrace the fun and demands of a Vermont winter.

Strengthening theBrunswick Trust

Every challenge and shared experience in Vermont reinforces The Brunswick Trust. Boys build character and connection, shaping who they’ll become. Read more here.

“Ultimately, this is about shaping young men who’ll be better dads, life partners, colleagues, friends, and lifelong learners—young men who are more compassionate, curious, and empathetic.”

An Important Message from the Chairman of the Board

It is with profound gratitude for a job exceptionally well done that I write to advise you that Tom Philip has informed the Board of Trustees of his plans to retire in June 2027, at the close of the 2026–2027 school year. When that milestone day arrives, after 26 years of his steady and extraordinary leadership, Tom will be the longest tenured Head of School other than Brunswick’s founder.
